The CEO of National Grid has announced that the company is creating a £50m support fund to help customers that are struggling to pay their energy bills.
The fund will be primarily used to make donations to bodies that provide support for vulnerable households and advice on improving energy savings, such as Citizens Advice, Fuel Bank Foundation and National Energy Action.
Despite the government’s move to cap utility bills for the next six months, it is expected that a large portion of the UK’s population will struggle to pay energy bills this winter and some will be pushed into fuel poverty due to the rising prices of gas and electricity.
