Study: Home gas boilers in the UK emit twice as much CO2 as all power stations

September 29, 2021

New research from the climate charity Possible suggests that the millions of gas boilers in UK homes generate twice as much carbon emissions as all of the country’s gas-fired power stations combined. The boilers in a city the size of Leeds, for example, were found to emit as much CO2 as an entire power station.

The analysis highlights the importance of upgrading residential properties in the UK so that they utilise greener heating technologies (such as heat pumps) and require less energy to heat (as a result of better insulation).
