Study Shows Air Pollution Reduces Benefits of Exercise on the Brain

Research has shown that physical activity is associated with a reduced risk of dementia, enhanced cognition and larger structural brain volumes, while air pollution appears to have the opposite effect. A new study of more than 8,000 people in the UK suggests that the benefits of physical activity on brain volume and health are entirely negated when it is carried out in areas with high levels of air pollution, such as beside busy roads.
