Approximately 3.8 million single-family houses in the United States are located within flood zones. A new study, conducted by researchers at the University of North Carolina and Stanford, found that property markets do not adequately reflect such risks. The researchers estimated that, collectively, these 3.8 million properties are overvalued by a total of $43.8 billion, which equates to roughly $11,500 per property.
